Terms of service

1. The agreement

These terms are between you and Sudhanshu Kadu, an individual based in Mumbai, India (“we”, “us”), who builds and operates Knode. By creating an account, joining a workspace or using the service, you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of an employer, you confirm you are allowed to do so, and “you” then means that organisation.

If you do not agree, do not use Knode.

2. What Knode is

Knode is a web application for recording and viewing team availability. People mark the days they are available, working from home, on leave, on a half day or not scheduled, and their team can see it and plan around it.

Knode is not a system of record for employment. It does not approve leave, calculate entitlement, hold contracts, run payroll or track hours. Nothing recorded in Knode changes anyone’s legal or contractual position at work, and it should not be relied on as an authoritative record of who took what leave. Your HR system is the authority; Knode is the planning view.

3. Free of charge

Knode is currently free. There is no card, no trial period and no paid tier.

Because it is free, we may change what the free plan includes, and we may introduce paid plans in future. If we do, we will give workspace administrators reasonable notice by email before anything changes for an existing workspace, and you will be able to export your data or stop using the service without charge.

4. Accounts and workspaces

• Give accurate details when you sign up, and keep your login credentials to yourself.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• Workspace administrators can invite and remove members and manage workspace settings. If you are an administrator, only invite people who should see your team’s availability.
• Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account.

5. How you may use it

Use Knode for its purpose: coordinating a team’s availability. You agree not to:

• Use it to monitor or surveil individuals, or to make it look as though Knode records more than it does.
• Upload anything unlawful, or personal data about people who have not agreed to be in your workspace.
• Break into, overload, probe or disrupt the service or anyone else’s workspace.
• Copy, resell or rebrand the service, or scrape it in bulk.
• Get round any limit, access control or security measure.

We may suspend an account that is doing any of this.

6. Your data stays yours

You keep ownership of everything you put into Knode. You grant us only the permission needed to store it, display it to your workspace and run the service for you.

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or use the contents of your workspace to train anything. How we handle personal information is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

7. Slack and other connections

Connecting Slack is optional. If you connect it, you confirm you are permitted to install applications in that Slack workspace. Your use of Slack itself is governed by Slack’s own terms, not ours, and we are not responsible for its availability or behaviour. You can disconnect at any time.

8. Availability and warranties

We work to keep Knode running and want it to be reliable. That said, it is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that any particular record will be preserved. There is no guaranteed uptime, and we may change, suspend or withdraw features. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, lost business, lost goodwill or lost or corrupted data, arising from your use of Knode — including decisions made on the basis of availability shown in it.

Knode is free, so the total you have ever paid us is nothing, and our total liability to you for any claim connected with the service is limited to that amount. Where a limit of nil is not enforceable, our liability is limited to the smallest sum the law permits.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop using Knode whenever you like, and delete your account from settings. An administrator can remove your workspace.

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. Where we can, we will give reasonable notice and a chance to export your data. Sections 6, 8, 9 and 12 survive the agreement ending.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top shows the current version. If a change materially affects your rights, we will notify workspace administrators by email before it takes effect. Carrying on using Knode after that means you accept the new version.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Mumbai have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting any mandatory rights you have where you live.
